China's quake-hit region receives donation worth 9 million U.S. dollarsBEIJING, March 16 (Xinhua) -- The earthquake-hit region in Yingjiang County of southwest China's Yunnan Province has received donations worth 59.58 million yuan (9 million U.S. dollars) by Tuesday afternoon. China's Ministry of Civil Affairs said in a statement Wednesday that the contributions, including donated money of 56.18 million yuan and materials worth 3.4 million yuan, would aid Yingjiang in its disaster relief efforts. A 5.8-magnitude quake struck Yingjiang last Thursday, leaving 25 dead and 314 injured. The tremor also toppled the homes of 1,039 families and left 4,994 other homes seriously damaged. |
